The 2024 World Menstrual Hygiene Day in Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality was celebrated with a significant event at Wassa Nsuta Municipal Junior High School. The Golden Tree Foundation, in collaboration with Inspirers and Advocates International, organized the event to promote menstrual hygiene practices among young girls. The event provided a platform for dialogue and education, breaking taboos and raising awareness. Participants engaged in interactive sessions, workshops, and informative talks about menstrual health, hygiene management, and overall well-being.
The event emphasized the importance of creating a #PeriodFriendlyWorld, advocating for greater understanding, accessibility to menstrual products, and support systems for girls facing menstrual health challenges. Speakers like Madam Rhoda Gyampoh, the Gender Desk Officer of Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly, educated girls about menstruation as a normal phenomenon and the importance of proper disposal of sanitary pads.

Madam Mawuena Atta, standing in for Mrs. Gloria Addisu Hasford of Golden Tree Foundation, stressed the human right of women to embrace menstruation and shared inspiring stories of women who have overcome societal taboos. Other speakers encouraged girls not to stay away from school during their menstruating period to avoid missing out on their dreams.
The Boy Child was also called upon to support the menstruating girl child by stopping verbal abuse. The platform allowed ladies to ask questions about menstrual hygiene and share their knowledge about the topic.
In addition to the discussions, Sanitary Pads were distributed to the girls, alleviating the financial burden that menstruation can pose to girls from underserved communities. Overall, the commemoration of the 2024 World Menstrual Hygiene Day in Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality exemplified a commitment to breaking barriers, promoting inclusivity, and building a more informed and supportive environment for menstrual health awareness and advocacy.
