On Tuesday 19th December 2023, the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with Friends of the Nation (FoN) conducted a multi-stakeholder project monitoring exercise to assess the progress of ongoing physical projects funded by the Mineral Development Fund (MDF) within the municipality. The team was also on a mission to assess the completeness in project design to meet the needs of beneficiaries, value for money, deviations and other issues or challenges faced during the implementation process.
The exercise involved various key stakeholders, including the Municipal Chief Executive, the Municipal Coordinating Director, the Municipal Planning Coordinating Unit, Assembly Members, Contractors and Technical Committee Members. The exercise also included representatives from various stakeholder groups such as Traditional leaders, Market Queens, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Women groups, Youth groups, and beneficiaries of the various projects.
The first project site visited was the Construction of a 2-Unit Classroom Block in the Israel community within the Municipality. The project, which is completed and handed over included an Office, Store, canteen, a 4-seater Enviro-Loo toilet, washroom, and 1No. 2 Bay Urinal with landscaping.
Other projects visited by the team included the Construction of a Durbar Ground at Dompim, Construction of a 2-unit Classroom Block at Boamah, Construction of 6-unit Classroom Block at Bogrekrom, and Construction of Community Centre at Cyanide. It must be noted that all the schools being constructed included Office, Store, a 4-seater Enviro-Loo toilet, washroom, and 1No. 2 Bay Urinal with landscaping. All the projects visited are at various stages of completion.
Overall, the exercise achieved its purpose of ensuring transparency, accountability and inclusiveness.
