The Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly in collaboration with Friends of the Nation on Monday, 18th December 2023, held a multi-stakeholder meeting to present the status of implementation of the OGP Action Plan and commitments as well as the allocations and utilisation of mineral revenues in the municipality.
This was the third OGP stakeholder engagement in 2023 after previous editions were organized earlier in the year The meeting was chaired and co-chaired by the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Boffour Ahmed Haruna and the Assembly Member for Green Compound Community, Hon. Michael Abeka respectively.
In attendance at the occasion were Traditional Leaders, Market Queens, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Women Groups, Youth Groups, Media, Technical Committee members, and Assembly Members. Participants were briefed on progress made on the Commitments, Achievements and efforts of the Assembly to strengthen the open government values of accountability, participation, good governance and openness to empower the citizenry, improve well-being and enhance development.
Participants were amazed of the progress made within a short period and commended the Assembly for the good effort towards open governance and as well used the opportunity to seek clarifications on issues presented. After the discussion session, members congratulated the point of contact, the Municipal Planning Officer and the technical committee for the achievements and urged them to continue on this path to bring governance closer to the people.
Participants also pledged their support for the implementation of the Commitments. The Traditional Authority present committed to also encourage Community Leadership to use some part of community funds to train a number of unemployed youth within various communities to complement the efforts of the Assembly. The programme was the curtain-raiser for an eventful three-consecutive-day full of activities which included a multi stakeholder project monitoring and a town hall meeting.
