2024 INTERNATIONAL WOMEN DAY CELEBRATION AT NSUAEM

The Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly organized the International Women’s Day Celebration under the theme “Invest in women: Accelerate progress.” The event aimed to honor the contributions and achievements of women and empower them with practical skills. The main focus was a hands-on training session on making zobo and degue or burkina drinks, popular and nutritious beverages made from hibiscus flowers and millet and cowpea grains respectively.

The Gender Desk Officer of the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly, Miss Rhoda Gyampoh, highlighted the importance of celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women worldwide. The day is observed annually on March 8th and focuses on accelerating gender parity and setting goals for achieving these targets.

The main feature of the event was the hands-on training session on how to make zobo and Burkina drinks, which were made from hibiscus flowers, millet, and cowpea grains. Key steps included selecting ingredients, washing and boiling the hibiscus petals, adding spices and sweeteners, and ensuring proper hygiene. After making the beverages, they should be allowed to cool down before serving with ice or bottling to store in the refrigerator.

The training was interactive, with participants actively engaging, asking questions, and sharing their experiences. Each participant had the chance to practice the steps and create their own batch of zobo and burkina drinks.

The celebration and training were well-received by participants, who expressed appreciation for learning a new skill and feeling more empowered. The event successfully achieved its objectives by celebrating the achievements of women in Nsuaem and equipping them with valuable skills that can enhance their livelihoods. The organizers received positive feedback and suggestions for future training sessions, indicating a strong community interest in such empowering initiatives.
