A team of security personnel commissioned by Hon. Benjamin Kessie, MCE for Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly to help curb the trend of mining on water bodies confiscated and burnt 10 machines on Wednesday, 17th August 2022.
The team found the galamsey operators mining on the Bonsa river (across the Water Treatment Plant), the main source of water for the people of Tarkwa and its environs, but they were able to avoid arrest after they swam across the river and fled from the security persons.
This operation is in effect to the President’s order to stop people from mining on water bodies.
According to Hon. Benjamin Kessie, The “exercise will be very regular” as he is keen to arrest anyone who is found guilty of the act. He also emphasized that he will not temper justice with mercy if someone is arrested. Adding that “whoever is arrested will be prosecuted”.
