On Thursday 18th November 2021, the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly held its 3rd Ordinary Meeting of the 2nd Session of the 8th Assembly at the Conference Hall, Ahwetieso.
The meeting was held to allow for members of the Assembly to discuss and approve the 2022 Annual Budget.
Some members of the Municipal Security Committee, Heads of Departments, Chiefs and Elders were present at the meeting.
In a statement, Hon. Benjamin Kessie, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tarkwa- Nsuaem expressed his appreciation to members of the house for their immense support during and after his confirmation on October 8, 2021. He urged them to maintain the unity and cordial working relationship existing under his administration.
He admonished Hon. Assembly members to improve on their lobbying and advocacy skills, although resource allocations in the budget to execute developmental works in the year 2022 may not be enough.
Hon. Kessie also indicated that, the Executive Committee has agreed to work on only the already submitted projects without considering any further recommendations for additional projects.
He used the opportunity to remind the house on the need for them to participate in this year’s upcoming Farmers’ Day Celebration slated for Friday 3rd December, 2021.
Touching on Chieftaincy disputes across the Municipality, he pleaded with the Traditional Rulers to settle their differences for the sake of Tarkwa-Nsuaem.
On the COVID-19 pandemic, the Municipal Chief Executive disclosed that cases recorded in the last quarter of 2021 currently stands at 530 with an increasing death toll of 13 victims. He therefore entreated the assembly members to continue to sensitize their electorates on the protocols in order to curb the spread of the virus.
In a remarks made by Hon. Emmanuel Gado, Presiding Member for the Assembly, he implored Members to play a pivotal role in their electoral areas in terms of education, revenue mobilization and sanitation through regular communal labour and sensitization programmes.
According to Mr. Bright Ohene Appiah, the Municipal Budget Analyst, a total amount of GH¢ 24,588,452.00 has been budgeted for the year 2022. This amount comprises of GH¢ 6,908,100.00 from Internally Generated Fund (IGF) and total grants of GH¢ 17,680,352.00. Total Expenditure Budget is 24,588,452.00 of which GH¢ 4,965,330.00 will be used for compensation of employees. An amount of GH¢ 9,639,691.00 will be used for Goods and Services, and Assets (Capital Expenditure) is GH¢ 9,983,431.00.
