REPORT ON CLEAN UP EXERCISE (OPERATION CLEAN YOUR FRONTAGE) FOR FIRST QUARTER 2023 

Saturdays and Sundays at every week were earmarked for the operation clean your frontage exercise in all the Electoral areas within the Municipality. The Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit together with the various Assembly members from the various communities join the opinion leaders, Unit committee member and the community members as schedule for the exercise.

The objective of the exercise is to rid the communities of filth and also use the opportunity to revive the communal spirit within the citizenry. It also improves the sanitation conditions of the communities.

The exercise was fully participated by the Municipal Coordinating Director, all the Assembly members in the Urban council, Municipal Environmental Health Officer and his staff and staff of the Assembly, security personnel’s including the community members where the exercise is organised.

Prior to the day earmarked for the exercise, the communities on the schedule will be sensitize and informed of their full participation and cooperation during and after the exercise as scheduled.

The exercise always begins at 6am and ended at 9am characterized by desilting of drains, sweeping and collection of refuse, weeding along the roads. The Assembly through the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit provided logistics such as wheelbarrows, rakes, cutlasses, forks, shovels/spades as well as refuse trucks for successful exercise. During the first quarter, the areas the exercise took place were Tarkwa main lorry station and its environs and Nkanponanse on.

A monitoring team comprising of Urban council chairman, the Municipal Environmental Health Officer move around monitoring the exercise and take records of individual defaulters without any tangible excuse for prosecution.

After the end of the exercise, the team together with all the members present meet together in either a community center or converge at a place to assess the exercise and address pertinent issues observed by the team and any other person. Despite all other challenges the exercise was successful.
