The Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly wishes to inform the General Public that it dissociates itself from any meeting, arrangement, or decision purportedly involving the Assembly that has resulted in an increment in transportation fares within the Municipality.
The Assembly has made checks with the Ministry of Transport and the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and has been informed that no negotiations have been concluded between the GPRTU and the Ministry of Transport regarding any increment in transportation fares. Furthermore, no officially approved new transportation fares have been communicated for implementation.
Accordingly, the Assembly wishes to advise the General Public not to pay any unauthorized increase in transportation fares being demanded by drivers or transport operators.
Passengers are encouraged to continue paying the existing approved fares until an official directive or approved fare structure is issued by the appropriate authorities.
Any driver or transport operator who charges passengers fares above the officially approved rates without authorization may be reported to the Ghana Police Service or the appropriate regulatory authorities for the necessary action.
The Assembly is currently engaging with the relevant stakeholders and remains on standby for any official directive from the Ministry of Transport. Should there be any approved adjustment to transportation fares, the Assembly will duly communicate same to the General Public through the appropriate channels.
The public is therefore urged to disregard any unauthorized information or purported agreement concerning an increase in transportation fares until such a decision has been formally negotiated, approved, and officially communicated by the competent authorities.
The Assembly remains committed to protecting the interests of the public and ensuring that transportation fare adjustments are undertaken through the appropriate legal and regulatory processes.
