MCE’S REMARKS ON 2023 OGP AWARDS

It has been a week since the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly emerged as the winner of the 2023 Open Government Partnership (OGP) award in Tallinn, Estonia for their overwhelming performances over the years.

The award was necessitated by the Assembly’s demonstration of accountability, transparency, partnership, all-inclusive governance, etc.

Representing the Assembly, Hon. Benjamin Kessie, Municipal Chief Executive, and Mrs. Amanda Agyei, Municipal Development Planning Officer received the award during a global summit in Estonia on Tuesday, 7th September 2023.

The Open Government Partnership Summit which is a global platform that comprises about 75 nationals and 104 locals, is hosted yearly in different countries to offer education on good governance and leadership qualities in various localities.

Historically, the Municipality has not only become the only local assembly to be awarded among seven countries this year (Ghana is one of the countries that were awarded) but also a proud winner in their first participation in the global summit.

Reacting to this achievement, Hon. Benjamin Kessie said the recognition serves as an expedient to attracting more support.

“This does not mean all is well with us, this means we are doing things right, this means we are in the right direction”.

“This paves the way to project the municipality to captivate international communities for more support”.

The Summit commenced on Wednesday, 6th September 2023, and ended on Thursday 7th September 2023.
