The Western Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Nelson has visited the Ghana Manganese Company (GMC) at Nsuta as part of his ongoing tour of strategic industries in the region.
He was accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executive for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, Hon. Ebenezer Cobbinah, together with officials from the Western Regional Coordinating Council.
The visit provided a platform to strengthen ties between government and industry, address investment challenges, and explore avenues for accelerated regional growth.
Hon. Nelson applauded GMC for its significant role in driving economic activities and providing jobs within the Western Region.
At the heart of the meeting was GMC’s planned $450 million manganese refinery. The Minister noted that the project would ensure value addition within Ghana, generate skilled employment, open up opportunities for local businesses, and ease the burden of heavy haulage on deplorable road networks.
He also stressed the urgent need to revive the Western Railway Line and deepen collaboration between GMC and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority at the Port of Takoradi.
According to Hon. Nelson, a working railway, an efficient Takoradi Port, and local mineral processing remain key to transforming the Western Region into Ghana’s industrial and logistics hub.
While assuring GMC and other mining firms of government’s support for sustainable investment, he cautioned that growth must be pursued with environmental responsibility and respect for host communities.
“Stronger collaboration among government, industry and communities can translate our vast potential into real jobs and lasting development,” he emphasized.
