The Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament for the Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency and other stakeholders, has undertaken a National Sanitation Day clean-up exercise at Essaman Kakraba and the Bogoso Junction Garages enclave.
The exercise formed part of efforts to promote environmental cleanliness, improve public health and encourage residents to take collective responsibility for sanitation. The selected areas were prioritised due to sanitation challenges, including waste accumulation, choked drains, commercial activities and flood-prone locations.

The exercise brought together the Municipal Chief Executive, Assembly Members, traditional leaders, community members, youth groups, traders, GPRTU, NADMO, security services, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, private waste service providers and other stakeholders. Activities included desilting of drains, sweeping of public spaces, clearing of weeds, collection and disposal of refuse, and public education on proper waste management.

A total of approximately 21 tons of waste was collected, while 210 tons of silt were removed from drains to improve water flow and help reduce the risk of flooding. Zoomlion and other waste management service providers supported the exercise with trucks, while the Fire Service assisted with flushing some drains.
The Assembly expressed appreciation to all stakeholders and participants for their support and called on residents to sustain the gains made by keeping their surroundings clean and avoiding indiscriminate disposal of waste.
The Assembly further emphasised the need for continued public education, stronger enforcement of sanitation by-laws, regular community clean-ups and routine maintenance of drains to achieve lasting improvements in sanitation across the Municipality.
