On Friday, 24th May 2025, the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly (TNMA), led by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ebenezzer Cobbinah, and the Member of Parliament, Hon. Issah Salifu Taylor, undertook a working visit to Anglogold Ashanti, Iduapriem Mines.
The visit focused on strengthening collaboration and addressing community development issues within the municipality.
The Acting Managing Director of Anglogold, Elder Abraham Osei Badu, welcomed the team and introduced departmental heads. He outlined the company’s operations and emphasized resettlement efforts for communities impacted by mining.
Hon. Ebenezzer Cobinnah commended Anglogold for its community contributions and called for stronger partnerships. He highlighted the waste management challenges caused by faulty trucks and appealed for the company’s support in improving sanitation.
He also addressed youth unemployment, urging Anglogold to offer job opportunities to local youth to reduce illegal mining. The MCE announced an upcoming festival to foster dialogue between mining firms and the youth.
Concerning healthcare, the MCE lamented poor service attitudes in local facilities and shared plans to launch a health education program. He also called for support in fixing the poor inner road networks in the municipality.
Hon. Issa-Salifu Taylor echoed the MCE’s concerns and announced plans to install two new transformers to stabilize electricity. He is also engaging Zoomlion to improve waste management in the municipality.
To tackle youth unemployment, the MP revealed plans to establish a poultry farm in the area. This initiative will create employment for the youth and support economic growth in Tarkwa-Nsuaem.
The visit ended with a renewed commitment from both the Assembly and Anglogold Ashanti to collaborate closely on development initiatives, improve living conditions, and create lasting opportunities for residents, particularly the youth.
