TARKWA-NSUAEM MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY TAKES BOLD ACTION AGAINST ILLEGAL MINING ALONG BONSA RIVER

On Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the Municipal Chief Executive of Tarkwa-Nsuaem, Hon. Ebenezer Cobinnah, accompanied by the Blue Water Guards, paid a working visit to the Ghana Water Resource Commission (WRC) at Bonsa. During the visit, he interacted with Mr. Edgar Cluttey, the Water Quality Supervisor, and identified the challenges affecting the commission’s operations. The WRC has been struggling to supply water to customers due to illegal mining activities along the Bonsa River.

In response to this challenge, the MCE assured the WRC of the assembly’s support, in collaboration with Member of Parliament Hon. Issa Salifu Taylor, to address the issue. He pledged to provide equipment and intensify the Blue Water Guards’ operations to curb illegal mining along water bodies.

In a bold move, the MCE, together with the Blue Water Guards, led a major raid at Bonsa River on the same day, resulting in the destruction of 4 Chang fang machines and 5 pumping machines. The Municipal Chief Executive warned the public that mining along water bodies is strictly prohibited and directed the Blue Water Guards to maintain regular patrols to ensure the full restoration of the rivers and their surrounding environment.
