NATIONAL SANITATION DAY CLEANUP EXERCISE HELD AT BENSO

The Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly on Saturday, 4th October 2025, successfully organized a National Sanitation Day Cleanup Exercise at Benso as part of the monthly cleanup campaign under the relaunched National Sanitation Day initiative.

The nationwide program mandates all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies to undertake cleanup exercises on the first Saturday of every month. Following the earlier exercises at Tarkwa Main Station and Nsuaem, this month’s activity took place at Benso, bringing together community members, Assembly staff, traditional authorities, and various stakeholders.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Ebenezer Cobbinah, in his address, commended the large turnout and described the level of participation as “overwhelming and encouraging.” He emphasized that sanitation should not be confined to a single day each month, noting that refuse is generated every moment and must be managed daily to maintain a clean environment.

Hon. Cobbinah expressed appreciation to all participants, particularly the residents of Benso, for their active involvement and commitment to cleanliness.

The Municipal Environmental Health Officer, Mr. Alex K. Damptey, noted that in the past, National Sanitation Day activities were concentrated mainly in the district capital. The Assembly’s management has now decided to extend the exercise to all Zonal Councils within the Municipality to promote inclusivity.

He also commended the Assembly Member for Benso, Hon. Frank Justin Afful, and the traditional authorities (Nananom) for their cooperation and strong support.

The exercise demonstrated excellent collaboration among community members, Assembly officials, and local leaders, reflecting the Assembly’s commitment to promoting cleanliness, public health, and environmental sustainability across all communities within the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality.
