YOUTH SYMPOSIUM HELD IN THE TARKWA-NSUAEM MUNICIPALITY.

Youth symposium has been held in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality to deepen democracy through accountable governance. It was organized on Friday, 27th January 2023 at the Catholic Parish Hall to create a platform for the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Benjamin Kessie to explain the state of government development to the people, particularly the Youth as critical stakeholder in the governance process.

The programme was organized by National Youth Authority in collaboration with the Information Services Department and the Ghana Youth Federation, Tarkwa-Nsuaem with the theme “Ensuring Participatory and Accountable Governance, the Stake of the Youth”.

In a remark by the Chairman of the event Nana Dr. Adarkwa Bediako III, he commended the organizers and the Municipal Chief Executive for such a program of engaging the Youth with the leadership of the Municipality.

Nana Abena Kunadjoa II, the Paramount Queen Mother of Wassa Fiase Traditional Area was the Guest of Honour. She advised the Youth to be law abiding and also ensure they use the appropriate channels in addressing their concerns, instead of resorting to violence means. 

Mr. Benjamin Teye Aborbi, the Municipal Director of National Youth Authority, welcomed all the participants and express appreciation to the Municipal Chief Executive for his consistent support to the youth in the Municipality.

Mr. Teye Aborbi further presented a Citation on behalf of the youth in Honour of Hon. Benjamin Kessie, the Municipal Chief Executive for his outstanding leadership contributions to the development of the Youth.

Mr. Bernard Ocran, president of the Ghana Youth Federation, Tarkwa Nsuaem, acknowledged the contributions made by some Youth Groups towards the development of the Municipality.

Mr. Frederick Kaayeng, the Municipal Information Officer said, that the program was in line with the Information Services Department core mandate of educating the good citizens on the various development projects, programmes and policies executed by government.

He was, however, grateful to the Municipal Chief Executive for his regular public engagements on the various development activities and social interventions implement by the Municipal Assembly and Government as a whole. He assured the Information Services Department commitment to collaborating with any public institutions, departments or agencies to organize such public fora that will give opportunity for the people to seek for clarifications on issues bordering them on governance.  

Hon. Benjamin Kessie, the Municipal Chief Executive commended the youth for demonstrating great concern towards the development of the Municipality. He introduced members of the Municipal Youth Committee inaugurated recently and admonished them not to be indulged in social vices likely to undermine their future.

Hon. Kessie also encouraged the leadership to organize more of such programmes to empower the youth on how to utilize their resource prudently to their own benefits.

 

 He further made a presentation on focal achievement and developmental projects across the various sectors of the economy in the Municipality such as roads, health, education, agriculture, the fight against illegal mining and government flagship programmes among others. he therefore encouraged individuals; an office has now been established at the municipal assembly on the RTI with an officer in-charged.

 The MCE also took a term to respond to questions of concerns and contributions from some of the participants during an opened forum.
