END OF YEAR MESSAGE BY HON. BENJAMIN KESSIE MUNICIPAL CHIEF EXECUTIVE

We have come to that season of the year where we celebrate our successes, reflect on our challenges, and forecast our desired future. There is a saying that one finger cannot pick-up a stone. This witty saying conveys why my expression of gratitude to the leadership and key stakeholders   of our great Municipality is vitally needful in this festive season.

With a heart of gratitude, I express my profound appreciations and thanks to the most compassionate and glorious God for seeing us throughout the year 2022. I appreciate and thank the clergy for their prayers and sterling support throughout 2022.

Expressively, I wish to extend my honest indebtedness to our hardworking Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Frank Ernest Odro for his unwavering support and cooperation during the period.  Staff of the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly also deserve many commendations for their patience, perseverance and the teamwork demonstrated during the year. We have endured this hard time together, and it’s time to say thank you and wish you a Happy Merry Christmas.

I wish to further express my deepest heartfelt gratitude to Members of the Municipal Security Council, Nananom and the religious leaders for assuring us once again, that we can always go to bed under their care without fear or panic. The relative peace we enjoyed within the period 2022, was as a result of their efforts.

It is also worth acknowledging the outstanding contributions made by our industry development players in the period under review, particularly AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine, GMC and Goldfields Tarkwa Mines. We will continue to work together as development partners to improve the lives of our people in the Municipality.

While our felicitations are endless to the great and wonderful stakeholders, the people, and well-wishers of our municipality, kindly permit me to share thoughts on what our collective effort chalked up for us in this year 2022.

Notwithstanding the global economic blow that hit our nation, the Assembly made a very significant thrives across all sectors of our local economy including agriculture, education, health, infrastructure, roads, justice and security, and social interventions among others.

Specifically, I’m proud to re-echo that, work on the construction of Tarkwa – Agona Highway Road is progressing steadily while the Assembly has been able to fix the Cyanide junction road, reshaped several other roads and made some motorable to allow for easy vehicular and human traffic flow.

Another evidence based remarkable achievement, that calls for an applause to the Member of Parliament, Hon. George Mereku Duker is in the area of sports development.  The Cyanide Community AstroTurf has been completed and handed over for used, bringing the total number of AstroTurf in the Municipality to three (3). The construction of T & A sports stadium by Goldfields Tarkwa Mines is also almost complete. These significant contributions by our MP, have been through his tactical lobbying skills and the judicious application of resources that have unfolded the massive transformation we are witnessing in our Municipality across the various sectors of the economy.

With the assurance of our indefatigable Member of Parliament, who has proven that indeed he is the man for the job, we shall continue to collaborate with Nananom and other concerned stakeholders to secure more concessions and expand the Community Mining that has created a lot of job opportunities for the teeming youth in the period under review.

Hon. Assembly Members, Nananom, Ladies and gentlemen, as a representative presiding over government business in the Municipality, I am very much aware of the challenges we have had to go through within the period under review.

Global economic crises and the aftermath of Covid-19 did not affect only our pockets, but our stomachs and livelihood in general. The high inflation literally made basic necessities such as food, water, shelter, transport and many others unaffordable. Moreover, the shared allegation of menace of Galamsey did not only distract but sought to challenge the good administration and success story of our Municipality.

I am equally aware of the shared challenges of families and individuals in our municipality during these challenging times, especially those that lost loved ones and jobs. I do share in the pain and setbacks of all as your leader. My testimony is that, here we are standing together with the victory crown that our toil and sacrifices won for us, thus a successful 2022. Thank you for not giving up!

To all and sundry, I say ayekoo!! Moving into the Year 2023, surely, we will require extra energy and abundance of Grace than what this year has offered. We require unanimity of drive and further determination to fight and achieve much better than this year.

While I congratulate our distinguished Assembly Members for the journey, we embarked together in the year 2022 amidst the economic difficulties, I urged each and every one of us to remain committed to our famous slogan, “Tarkwa-Nsuaem, Yɛ nhwɛ ma ni nsei”. We need to continue to build and accomplish the legacy we have created in the interest of our communities, the people and our Municipality.

Let us remember that Christmas is the season to forgive those who might have stepped on us in their line of duty. I humbly request such loving forgiving heart from those whose nerves I one way or the other stepped on. It’s time to share, rejoice and celebrate together in the true spirit of unity and to renew our loyalty with the Almighty God.

May God grant His travelling mercies to those who would be travelling during the holidays to their destinations.

I wish everyone a Happy Merry Christmas.

Please, don’t drink and drive.

Ghana needs you! Tarkwa-Nsuaem needs you!!

God bless us all.

Thank you!
