STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT COMMENCES FOR THE PREPARATION OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE POLICE POST AT TETREM.

The Tarkwa Nusaem Municipal Assembly has organized a stakeholder engagement forum to plan for the construction of a police post at Tetrem, a community in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality in the western region. The meeting came on as a result of a proposal sent to the Assembly by the Wassa-Fiase Mediation Team. The team observed that the area has become a hot spot for robbery attacks due to absence of police and mobile network connectivity. It is believed if all hands are put on deck to construct the police post, the recent spate of robbery will be curbed. A member of the team Mr. Asare Oppong who spoke on behave of the team informed the meeting that the decision to channel their intention through the Assembly is that the assembly is the city authority and the Municipal Chief Executive serve as the head of the Municipal Security Council and this could not be achieved without his involvement. Mr. Asare Oppong therefore appealed to the stakeholders at the meeting to do everything possible within their means to support the constructions of the police post since security matters affect all. The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. K .D. Asmah embraced the initiative by the mediation team and said this could not have been a difficult project for the Assembly to construct but it is constrained with resources at the moment hence the need to involve other stakeholders to bring the project to fruition. Hon. Asmah said, the Assembly is embarking on so many projects, including engaging private individuals to enhance development in the municipality. He added that this and other projects will help achieve first class status for the municipality. He told the meeting that as soon as the proposal was presented to the assembly by the mediating team, he assigned the works engineer Maxwell Obeng who visited the site, did assessment and present an estimate for the cost of the construction to the Assembly. He assured the stakeholders that the Assembly will not relent on its effort to ensure that the project is successfully executed. Some stakeholders at the meeting raised some concerns ranging from extension of mobile network connectivity, fixing of potholes on the highway and extending invitations to other companies who could not participate in the meeting among others. At the end of the meeting, a ten-member committee was formed to steer the affairs, manage, monitor and offer technical advice for the support of the construction of the police post which is estimated to cost one hundred and fifty four thousand Cedis (Gh₵ 154,000.00).
